I keep thinking about this subject and wonder what it's all about, We all have to cut down on emmisions but surely we need to cut down on population due to the demand on the planet as well, It seems that condensing boilers, low emmission vehicles, insulation etc will not work unless the planets population all does it as well.

We use to have waste paper collections and glass return to off licences many years ago, when refuse was collected a man use to tip it into the back of the dust cart, now we have a machine that lifts a wheelie bin up to empty say 20kg of rubbish but the machinery itself to lift this probably weighs in excess of 150kg so how much fuel does it take to do that for every household and what is that impact !!

Plus the fact that we have 5 different collections of glass, cardboard, plastic, food rubbish etc in our area all driving all over the place to collect it with 5 different collection bins, when they have to collect 20 types for recylcing will we have 20 different bins in the front garden, surely it would be better to collect it with one vehicle then sort it at the processing plant then as other products can be recyled this is then introduced into the process.

We are phasing out a standard 60 + 100 watt bulbs which in my opinion are the best lighting for a room, but we can have 8 x 50watt downlighters @ 400watts instead in the same room, mad or what!!

How do you view this problem.

Mike.

populationoo high and the planet is reaching limits. If everyone lived like an American for example we would need 4 earths to sustain us. Most families these days have 2 children ie they replace themselves. However some groups seem intent to hace huge familes whatever the cost to the planet and the taxpayer! as far as refuse collection goes its all about european targets. lets face it europe runs thew country now.

You say too many children I have argued with my wife over poverty in other countries, it always seems that what these countries really need is birth control ! surely it would be better for these children never to suffer in the first place, sending money does not seem to rectify these problems in the long term.

I saw David Attenborough on TV, he said since starting his carreer on tv the population has risen by 5 times.

anyway going to bed now, had me nightly rant.

Mike.

doest it take more energy to recycle glass that it does to make a new one.

why not make all glass bottles to same sizes and shape so they can be cleand out and a new top put back on like we useto?

i bought something in wh smiths the other week, lady said 'would you like a bag?' i say 'oh, yes please' sahe says 'we charge a penny though, it's to help with the enviroment, makes people reuse them' i say ' if your company really want to help why not stop putting unnesasery plastic around 80% of your goods!' she says 'ummmerrrr' i then proceeded to unwrap what i had bought and put it on the counter to make my point.

i think is a bloody cheek to charge for a bag that will be advertising them.

One problem is that many Third World countries have a culture of having large families. It dates back to when mortality rates amongst the newborn were high. The developed world has moved forward with smaller families; the undeveloped world has not. Even Nature's cruel population control methods of famine & pestilence do nothing to equalise populations in regions where the growth has outstripped Nature's ability to sustain human life.

At the turn of the 20th century it was the norm in this country for families to have 10 kids and we where not a third world country.

Contraception has come a long way since then should be put in their drinking water.

I've been given some fines, for not filling out some monthly contractors forms.

The tax office is supposed to send out the forms, and then I fill them in and return them.

I think I've finally got it all sorted.

They've sent me 26 envelopes each containing 4 separate statements and a self addressed envelope.

Each statement stated that I don't owe anything, and the self addressed envelope is for me to send the payments off.

They could have sent me just one letter, listing the 104 statements with a final amount owing.

I can't work out how this is going to save the environment.

I reckon we could have a raving rant page where we can all have a good old bloody moan in general everyday There is always something to moan about.

Mike
