All sorted now guys. Went to Screwfix this morning (was a bit of a journey but i enjoyed playing on the nice quite country lanes) and bought a Honeywell valve.
Replaced the head and heating has now been restored lol.
Thanks again for everyone's help. It really is appreciated as i had no idea on plumbing before this...and still don't really but at least i understand the workings of our heating a little bit more now lol
