Have any of you chaps got experience with GX53? lighting?

what are the pros and cons?

Bit of a broad question, what are you looking at doing with it specifically, and what lamp technology exactly?

Isn't Gx5.3 the lampholder usually used in low voltage lamps such as dichroics & capsules?

OK,

According to what I have read, this type of fitting will take CFL dimmable CFL, CCFL or LED. They all have the electronics etc built in -I think - to the lamp.(no need for tranny etc)

they are a slimline fitting and can be recessed (Into spaces with little headroom) or surface mounted.

They seem Ideal for a multitude of applications. I just wondered if there were any drawbacks or if anyone had used them yet?

It seems my previous thread is dead in the water due to a misunderstanding.

Gx53 and GX5.3 are not the same

GX5.3 is -if I am not mistaken - 12v MR16 to fit standard downlighter

Gx53 on the other hand is a 230v disc, which is a completely different size and shape to the GX5.3.

They seem to be new on the market and i have never seen them before; hence the original question

Well it wasn't, until you started this one. Think this one needs closing\moving\merging to prevent confusion.

Now merged

Looking at it, GU\GX5.3 is a cap type, and was often referred to as GU\GX53. From what I've seen so far, it does appear GX53 is a new lamp type, just odd they use the same numbers when there's loads of other numbers they could have used, like 48, or 97 etc... to avoid confusion.

never heard of this GX53 before now....

lurch - the numbers refer to spacing of the pins - i.e GX5.3 is 5.3mm apart... GX53 is most likely 53mm apart. GX50 (or other number) wouldnt be accurate...

I understand what you mean by GX53 (Our local Senate don't, they jumped to all the wrong conclusions as well, telling me in their usual condescending tone that the lamps were only available in low voltage!)

In my experience the pro's are the usual cfl ones, i.e. high lumens per watt, low heat. con's are also usual cfl ones, i.e slow warm up, high lamp cost, slight flicker.

The ones I've been involved with have poor lamp life, but to be fair it is a fairly arduous applcaton.

I think they have been around for years I have one in my stock that I brought from BDC and that could have been five years ago.

I first came across them when looking for LED cabinet lighting but it would seem that they have a multitude of uses
