HDMI, Data and TV

Hi everyone

Just thought i would ask some advice on a rewire i have starting next week

This is only my second rewire on my own so Im really looking forward to it

The problem is when i quoted for it, it was for the builder and he asked if i could install a few TV and data points in a few rooms.

No problem i thought, then i get an email with what the customer want and its a bit more then what iv done before.

I never touched any HDMI Hi-def stuff before and have not found much info on installing it.

Here are the details that i was sent, any help would be much appreciated

Best way to go about it? Dont want to mess things up on my second job with this builder.

looks like they are going to do HDMI over cat5e which means all you need is to run 2 Cat5e legs for each HDMI output from the patch panel to the RJ45 face plate. They will then fit Tx & RX devices to send the HD data down your Cat5e.

So for Bed 3 you would have: 6 x Cat5e and 1 x Coax (2xHDMI 1, 2xHDMI 2, 1x Voice and 1 x Data).

Ask them for the info on the media company involved.

As Ian said run the HD over cat5 or 6, but you will need a HDMI extenders(& dont forget that you will need a socket at tx & rx unit locations for the power adaptors) for each HDMI outlet..

These ones that will bump 1080p over 28 meters using 2x cat legs

M107 It looks like he will be using the patch frame for the tx end.

Buzzin as M107 said you will need the adaptors if that is part of your work, on top of that you will need 4no. short patch leads per pair and you will only get 4 RJ45 to fit a double gang plate. Use MK gridline so you can put RJ45 and TV on the same plate.

Personally its a bit OTT to have 2 HDMI points at one location, I would have thought that they would be better having all the HDMI stuff at the patch panel location then run all the HD up one channel via a Matrix. A 4x4 HDMI matrix would do this nicely and then a universal remote control something like a philps pronto to control it all.

I don't think the OP's scope of work will probably go to the extent of supplying the kit on the end of the cable. I would expect that the client has sorted out that side or have a AV specialist onboard. I'm sure if we have not explained it well enough then the OP will ask and we would be pleased to give more detail.

The simple answer is I don't understand! And unless OP knows more than he is letting on just pointing out that what may seem second nature to you may require a little more explanation for the novice!

I spoke with the customer after reading your post and he is now supplying the kit so thats a load off my mind.

Tip top tip.

You could also try to get them to cough the extra for FTP Cat5e this would avoid any disputes if they did get picture interference etc once you leave the job. If not its worth spending 10mins taking pictures of you Cat5 routes or get builder to sign off on your segregation.

Really looking forward to doing this, i hope he has the kit ready before i finish as i want to have a good look at it.

Plus I think you need to use FTP or STP Cat5e instead of UTP, also seem to remember that you need some sort of test kit for configuring the TV etc.

Uses 8 pair cable like telephone but more extra pair
