This is definitely a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"
your oven is wired the same way 99% of ovens / cookers are wired. I have never seen a single failure due to excess heat on the back of a cooker or oven.
I've seen failures due to loose terminals, but that's all.
No I have never dismantled one,but I get what you are getting at. The insulation will stop the heat from raching the outer metal casing. I will just terminate as is then using the existing 6mm

Should that read, "I'll just leave it as it is" , since you only moved it to clean it. (which is probably a first, as every free-standing cooker I've had the misfortune of working on is a grease spattered dust magnet)
