Are these still legal?? (obviously outside of zone 2)

As a client has asked me to install one that he has purchased himself.

They just seem a bit "wrong" to me.

Some non-compliant stuff can be purchased from places such as ebay.

Providing it is 'CE' marked and it is installed in accordance with manufactures instructions and BS7671 then it should be compliant. I don't think it can ever be illegal though.

Just ensure circuit rating is adequate for the load.

These are very popular with little old ladies, dry's the blue rinse nicely.

We had one in our bathroom before the C/H was put in donkey years back but it was on a 5 amp rewireable so never caused any problems

 
Those wall mounted single bar cord operated fire were also very common many years ago. I think a lot of those were just added to the lighting circuit.
