I can open a terminal window okay. I'm just not familliar with the command line commands in linux

I have no idea how to take a screen grab short of taking a picture of it with my camera.

but treat me like a dumb ass and describe what I do command by command

yes, get canoey to help you, he is a lot more computery than me,  :|

he actually helped me a while back,  :C

Dave, Steptoe mentioned before is your wifi turned on, on the keyboard, is the wifi symbol illuminated near the on/off button
yes, just to re-iterate, I have an orange button beside my power button, when I press it it turns blue and my wifi is then on,

I discovered this be accident once, when I had turned it off by pressing the 'wrong' power button and then couldnt get on the internet,

it may be that ubuntu turned it OFF on install

Ah, no the wi fi light is not on.

but surely it's up to the software to turn it on.  It worked with windoze, and I have done nothing (i.e not changed anything in the bios) to turn it off.

ok, there will be a physical button to turn it on, once you turn it on, the OS [ubuntu] should remember and keep it turned on until you turn it off physically again.

Can't find any bois settings about wi fi power.  F3 and shift £f so nothing.  It must be a software setting to turn it on or off.

After googling - Its a known issue with the acer

Needs fixing in terminal after having a look to see what the problem is first
Perhaps you can talk me through it?

There was that article I mentioned a LONG tome ago, this one http://www.ehow.com/how_7324956_acer-wlan-work-ubuntu-linux.html

But what I see on my screen when I try that foirst step does not match with what they say.

I think I've had enough tonight. If you guys are around tomorrow evening perhaps we can have another try?
