Hi, im looking to set up self employed with a mate, for domestic jobs. But im unsure what the next step is?

Im not sure what qualifications i still need and what i need to do to set up business? Any help/ advice much appreciated as ive been away from trade for few years now and hope to get back into it.

I have city and guilds level two electrical installation part 1+2.

My mate has city and guilds level three inspection and testing, level three electrical installations, part 'p' domestic electrical installers.

Cheers

Jonathon

Hi mate,

If you are setting up as self-employed 'domestic', then the main requirements are 'competence' and an understanding of the 'wiring regulations' and 'building regulations' that apply to this type of work.

Should your 'competence' ever be in question, then having certain qualifications will help towards proving that you were competent to undertake the work in the first place.

In other words, there are no set qualifications to be a self-employed electrician, but the better trained you are, and the more experience you have, then the less likely you are to make dangerous mistakes.

Keep in mind that you are wiring places were people live, a lot of whom are ignorant when it comes to electricity, so safety of the installation is paramount.
