I know of a mad old Italian that asks for his gas meter to be removed as he does not want gas.  He then just connects straight on to the blanked off pipe with no regulator. Old git has been at it since the 80s and now he is in his 80s and still at it.

There's a storey of someone where I used to live physically turned his gas meter around to make it run backwards.

He left it like that too long and the meter reader came and his missus let him in to read it.

So thinking he had been caught he owned up thinking it would make the penalty less.

It turned out all the meter reader had reported was "unable to read meter"

Precisely. But the guy thought he had been rumbled for turning it around so confessed, but all the meter monkey said was "unable to read meter" so he could have got away with it.

Tons of Gas meters on Ebay. I have even seen bespoke bypass "kits" with regulators fitted ect ect ect. Plenty electrical meter seals too as well as "proper" crimping tools to complete that professional finish lol. Been going on since they invented the meter lol, It has got worse since the energy companies realised that it costs them more to hunt down the fiddlers than to just pass an estimated loss onto all customers. I heard a while ago that most utility companies don't even offer a bonus to meter readers any more where as they used to offer quite generous bonus for every confirmed "find". Tells its own story.

A mate of mine used to reverse his gas meter. One time he forgot so had to have the heating and cooker on full to get the reading back into the 'plus'.
