The CPC is connected to the earth terminal on the metal front plates.
Providing one of the screw fixings goes into a fixed lug on the back box, there is no need for a fly lead to bond the back box.
Whilst your statement is true Dave, looking closer at the picture do those back boxes actually have both the lugs mounted on a central pivot bar?

Doc H.

Does the back box actually need earthed?

Its not extraneous, or exposed? And its deffo not accessible, the supply should be isolated before gaining access to it.

Just to be clear - All electrical work has to comply with 'Part P' and all other relevant parts of the 'Building Regulations' - what may not be required, in this instance, is 'notification' to 'Building Control'. :)
Part P only applies to certain types of installations in dwellings, communal parts of buildings serving dwellings, sources shared with dwellings etc.  It has no relevance to a lot of commercial, industrial, public sector buildings etc. Replacing accessories has no relevance to part P and wiring that is fixed to the surface of a wall and does not pass through any building structure has no relevance to the building regulations. Part P is only applicable in certain parts of the UK. So clearly all electrical work does not have to comply with Part P and certainly the OP's question on this thread is exempt from any need to consider Part P.

Interesting point. Having looked closer, the lugs appear to be on some form of yoke, a design I've never seen before. I guess it depends how the yoke is fixed to the back of the box.

Well I reckon it's an MK 3840ZIC conversion bracket................but what do I know????? I would posta link but my iPad hates me
Kerch, as you are old like me, you may have seen this switch box before, the box had a centre open rivet holding the fixing lug bar, you put a wood screw through the open rivet, I think it was appleby iirc.
