I am in the process of replacing my light switches for snazzy chrome ones!

I have come across my top floor switch with 7 wires, I am beaten.

I have uploaded a picture of the original and the new switch, anyone that helps would save me getting frazzled.

You have bought an intermediate switch. Mark the wires with a pen before disconnecting. Install single red in L1, put the others in both L2s, and you should be fine.

Why don't manufacturers just make intermediates?

That is a bit like asking why don't manufactures just supply LONG accessory screws with everything? Switch/Socket/Spur etc..

Say at least 50mm? So you have a cat in hells chance of at least cutting them down if they are too long...

Rather than binning them as they are too short and useless for 90%+ of other applications.....
because they are stupidly short screws, (e.g. with some light switches), that barely reach through the depth of the accessory itself!!!??

Or those accessories that need a flat head screw as the raised head looks naff BUT there is not enough slack to,fit a gridswitch extension stud
