Hi Ian,I will be paying as I go along.I currently work silly hours so college will be difficult and I really want to get on the ladder asap rather than going to college for a year.

The one thing that the quick courses can't teach you is experience. That only comes with time which is why the college route is good but if you are able to get this elswhere (or already have it) then they are useful to bring people up to the required level.

Good luck.

Ian.

But are the qualifications listed the minimum for domestic install and signing off ?

Requirements will depend on your scheme provider but will most likely want C&G 2382. They will also require knowledge of the relevant Building docs as defined in part P (iirc ABCEFLM). you could use a short intensive course to provide that. Which scheme provider are you thinking of joining?

Ian.

Welcome to the forum.

I am with the "Go down the college route".

Have a look around - there are some recent threads very similar to this.

Best advice you can get though would be to contact a college and go there, at least you knwo where they are and they are a lot less likely to take your money and run

Welcome to the forum Asif, what is your current trade / profession? Do have have other existing electrical experience or knowledge?

I am a field engineer for an medical electronics company, but want to set out on my own.The only experience I have with electrics are related to the machines I work on which is not alot, pat testing etc.

I cant answer your question as Im in Scotland don't know if I have mentioned this before but we don't have Part P!!!!On a personnal note, going with what has been said, 'Buying' (and thats what it is), a qualification does not make you a spark!!!.

Anyway welcome to the forum. ;)
Agree with you totally, but regulations require that I "buy" the qualification does it not ?

well, i suppose 'buy' is one way of putting it, although just because youve paid for the course, doesnt mean your going to pass and get the qualifications

So if I went down the college route what courses would you recommend I do ?

Thanks very much Andy, this has been doing my head in for week now and I think I will go down the college route, got this feeling that the training provider is just after my money. Thanks again.

C&G 2330 Levels 2 & 3, if you already have experience. (If you haven't the college may require you to do the Level 1 too).

C&G 2382-100 17th Edition Regulations.

C&G 2391 Inspection & Testing

C&G 2377 It you want to do Portable Appliance Testing too. (PAT)

Hello Asif welcome to the forum. I do not think one of these courses will make you a spark. Evening classes is the best route and try to get some weekend experience with a spark.

Batty

You will need to start with city and guilds 2330 which can be studied part time over two evenings per week at a cost of approx
