My name is Colin and I live in London. I am 46 and have started my C&G 2365 level 2 (should be complete in September). I am doing the theory as home study and I will go into the training centre for 4 separate weeks for the practical and tests. Then I will do level 3 home study (already signed up) while working as a mate or improver. I'm a C&G level 2 Bricklayer so I'm reasonably familiar with construction sites but I am very fresh to electrics (been studying like mad though). I don't do construction currently as I actually work as a personal trainer in a gym. I am bored of this now and miss construction work. I don't want to go back to bricklaying so I decided to retrain as an electrician. Ideally I'd like to have my gold card in 4 years but am a bit naïve about the process. Im a little bit worried about my age but I'm keen to learn, reasonably smart and keep myself in good physical shape so I don't think it should hold me back too much. Maybe it will go against me when I try to get my initial job? Initially I intend to start as a mate or improver in September (once I get my Level 2 and ECS card). I just wanted to say hi really.

Welcome to the forum.

Have you considered incorporating existing skills with electrics to perhaps specialise in something like driveways? I'm of the opinion a speciality like that pays more money.

I just want to solely focus on learning electrics to be honest as I know nothing about it. Hopefully I can get a mate/improver job once I get Level 2 and the ECS card.

I need to make a CV specifically for my future electrician mate work. I have done a lot of work which I don't think is relevant, should I still put this in? Examples: Personal trainer, gardener. I dont want to clutter the page as I've done a lot of different jobs. I don't suppose anyone has an example CV that I could look at for the format? Or a link for a good one? There are loads online and they are all different so I don't know what type to do. Thank you.
