Hi

I have a hi-fi which i have had for several years, the volume control is the type that is a slider.

I have noticed recently that it makes the scwerch noise at certain points.

Is there anything that i could do for this? What about contact spray in a can?

Thanks

Bonz.

Hello Bonzo, Welcome to the forum - Someone will be able to answer your question, I'm sure.

:)

Switch cleaner is what you need, available from maplins or somewehere like that. Used to use it on mixing desks when the faders started to crackle a bit ;)

How old is old?, it may just be worn, just take care to use the correct type contact cleaner and ensure you follow the can's instructions

The slider is a carbon track type & it could be that the carbon has worn out, I would take it out & try to see if you can seperate the metal enclosure from the slider and see how much wear there is, if it looks okay then switch cleaner should do the job.

Alternatively, if it is fubar, see if there is an ident number on it & check with Maplins to see if you can get a replacement.

If you have any probs getting one, come back to me as I have tons in my workshop & may be able to sort you out with an alternative, for the price of postage.

Thank You lads, i will let you know as soon as have had a look.
