Whilst in the process of disconnecting & removing some old cables supplying downstairs lounge sockets this week....

I found what appeared to be a ring leaving the CU, 2x T&E onto one 30amp fuse,

tests indicated it was either a broken ring or two radials! ?:| :(

Disconnect one cable.. suss out which sockets are dead, remove some sockets, lift some boards,

(that have obviously been lifted previously), and find this hiding.....

Is it the "other half of the ring" or "the end of the other radial", ?:|

Two ends make me think it was once a joined up ring?

Look close at the nice glowing voltstick... Yes its live when fuse put back in!!!

Who puts a 20amp Double Pole switch under the lounge floor...

with a taped up open end.. both of which would have been live when the sockets fuse were on!!

The only good point was you did need a tool to access the joint! :p

tools required can be seen on first photo! ; \ :D :^O:^O:^O

I did think at first it was one of Nicky T's famous tape joints...

But obviously I was mistaken cuz...

a) it wasn't on the lights, and

B) don't think even N.T. lets his joints fall apart as easy as this one did.... ; )Guiness Drink

Maybe the person who did the work was short of a JB and thought he'd be long gone before it was found........

Did Mr Homeowner go red and make excuses to leave?

Well found BTW! Could have had you entertained for hours :D

That on your re-wire, Specs?
Yes...

Just fortunate it is ALL being ripped out..

Also found several lights wired in singles...

ALL BLACK!!!! :_| :_| :_| :(

Live / Neutral / Switched live.... Single back with sheathing.

Earth.... Single black NO sheathing.

Must have had shares in black cables...

or had a load fall off the "black" of a lorry!! :D ] :)

:^O :^O:^O:^O:^O

Mr DIY bob has sold & left the property... X(

He could of actually just disconnected the other end of the cable out from a socket on the other side of the room to leave it safe! X(

he did use j-boxes as well...

because I also found a little nest of 5 j-boxes within 1 square metre of each other under the landing floor:_| :_|

I am rewiring the lot for Mr & Mrs new owners! :D ;)

which is the best solution..

cuz there is too much rubbish to make good. :|

yep seen all that before and worse,(nails in the side of joists with cables twisted around them as a joint), if installation looks at all iffy recomend complete rewire, and explain reasons, people will thank you for that to have a safe installation.

Found a similar thing whilst re-wiring a friends kitchen recently - seemed the guy liked using sockets instead of JBs, but without the pattress boxes - took out 10  :O:O

Yeah like how you placed ur tools on the floor nice and neat hehe

Well blimey Nicky!

you surprise me there! :|

I was sure I read earlier that you secured the cables so they could not pull apart?

So I thought this couldn't be up to your standard! :)

Perhaps it was an early joint when you were still apprentice Tape Jointer! :D ;)
