Jersey (camping)..........brilliant. big beaches loads of water sports, lots of sun and plenty of wartime history sites to visit.

The Durrell wildlife park is worth a visit as are the war tunnels and the channel island military museum.

we also joined the locals and had a few hours of free fun sliding down the monster dunes (Les branches banques) on borrowed sledges.

Beer of choice is liberation blonde beer.

Be warned Jersey pounds are not legal tender when you get back home.

Then there was the week in Wales visiting family.......It didn't rain.........on the first day!

Still plenty to do and see........oh yes even got some fishing in, on the one dry and rather warm day we planted ourselves on Pendine sands, for those that have never been it's ideal for kids thigh deep water with sand underfoot.

Camping near Weymouth, missed the Red Arrows, cancelled due to bad weather. Got a suntan and swam in the sea every day though.

Is camping a sparky thing? Some new to the business might think we were all in the Caribbean or somewhere.

1 week in the Lake District - in a rented property - we hadn't been to the Lakes in the Summer before.

Great accommodation, good weather, lots of walking and sight seeing. We all enjoyed it (except my teenage daughter who hates walking!)

I ony go abroad about once every few years, which I am planning to change.

So does this merit a sub-forum? I suppose it isn't particuarly needed with Tripadvisor et all in existence already, but thought it might liven the forum up a little?

You thinking of staying nearer to home to maintain your low carbon footprint? Imagine all that green energy squandered when you jump of a CO2 chugging plane.......

:D

I am not a fan of holidaying in the UK.  You need to to much luck to land on the 1 sunny week we have in summer.  Also the prices are ridiculous here.  Just came back from a lovely place in Portugal.  Hot, sea, pool, cheap beer - what more do you want?

No holidays for us as such, apart from a weekend at a music festival. Too busy trying to build a house.

We have managed 9 days out on the boat (not sleeping overnight on it, just days out) and that's less than previous years.  But still 3 weeks until crane out so may get another day or 2 on it yet.

I recently had two weeks in Chez Moi and it was sh!te!

My idea of a holiday is a beach in Greece. Dig a hole in the sand and watch the German birds playing topless volleyball whilst pretending to read a book behind dark glasses.......... :Blushing

I had 2 weeks in sweden in july which was lovely. (Is it still classed as a holiday if you stay at your parents though? :) ).

Also had 5 days in dorset with a group of mates a few weeks ago. The swimming pool and hot tub was great, but next year i need more than one day at the steam fair. 9am-11pm is not enough time to see it all!

I've fitted enough solar panels to cover my carbon footprint many times over for the rest of my life, but there are still places in the world I want to see that are only reachable by aeroplane. Now if we all went veggie and you stopped shoving your hand up those methane producing cows :slap

you can get anywhere without going by air. might take a month on a ship (or a bit longer in a dinghy / pedalo), but you can still get anywhere...

the Dorset steam fair is immense, I've only managed to catch a few hours after stumbling upon it one afternoon. Just love seeing so many vintage vehicles actually doing what they were designed for.
