Hi everyone, First Post, Hope someone can point me in the right direction. I have been aked to install lighting for a riding arena. Problem is i can't seem to find a minimum height for the lights to be fitted. I was told to check regs, but cant seem to find any relating to riding arenas. The arena is 40m x 40m. My plan of attack was gonna be 4 poles, 1 in each corner, at 8m high. Each with 2 x 250w metal halide floods supplied via 10mm swa, 25a contactor and 16a c type mcb

Thorn do a really good leaflet type thing on designing external lighting, it lets you select the type of fitting and mounting height and gives you the lux levels and coverage. That may be of some use to you?

Thanks for replying noz, i have seen this before about tt'ing the earth. thought it would be ok as the system is 30ma rcd protected and i would be using one of the cores plus the swa as a cpc. On another point, the supply cable is burried for half of the arena and clipped out of horse reach the rest. also mains is tns

Make sure your not pointing the lights at any roads... otherwise you could get problems with complants.

Also Remeber Horses Love to Chew things!!!! So make sure Everything is protected... and also when they get board they like to stand and kick things so no adaptiable boxes where the horse can stand on or rub its arse on... other wise you will be getting called out !

Yes, it get's repeated ad-nausem every time anyone mentions anythng remotely agricultural. Regulation only applies to TNC-S supplies. Nothing wrong with what you propose.

this has nothing to do with it.

To quote SL

erm.......The actual description goes along the lines of....

Page 183 BRB..

Agricultural & Horticultural Premises..

Reg 705.411.4 TN systems..

A TN-C system shall NOT be used in the installation. etc.. etc...

which in effect means it 's Going to be TT'd:) ; )Blushing
:)

Thanks for the replies andy and apache, but your advice relates to a tn-c supply. the supply i have is tn-s. Would you still recommend i TT it, cheers

it may be a good idea to make it TT considering whats its used for. problem these days is there is no such thing as a TNS supply, since the DNO constantly bond neutral to earth just about anytime they do a joint/repair

hi just chilling and found this link about riding arena lights you may wish to have a look. see table 11.6

:z :z:z:z:z;)

Ian, if it were me , I'd go through the wholesaler and get a technical rep from a lighting company to spec. it . They're the design experts . We did it for a soccer training pitch a while back , think we had Thorn.
