I have nothing at the moment, the 2 companies i have been contracting to since i set up in october have dried up so applied for my niceic registration. I dont want to start advertising until i have this so its gonna be a long 6-8 weeks for me! I never thought it would be so difficult for someone who is fully qualified in their trade to get started without breaking the law if i do a job that is notifiable without getting the building inspector out which is out of the question due the price. It seems the system is wrong if you ask me. headbang

Booked the first job (periodic) for March an hour or so ago.

Feb ok at the moment but nothing big as in any newbuilds, just domestic board changes, one partial rewire, mostly small extensions/loft conversions to first & second fix.

A few maint jobs around 3 local schools + 2x customers who's pat'ing is due & a 3000 item pat'ing job to quote on for one school.

I am getting more calls asking " can you test & sign off my electrics" (1 on the mobile today & 1 on answer phone yesterday) so I suspect more peeps are diy'ing it.

Ticking Over ..... Some days busy , Some not so busy :put the kettle on

Still more busy than I want to be (I never want to work full time)

November and December were, as usual the busiest months of the year for me, but contrary to what normally happens, I've been flat out all January as well.

Still plenty on just now for the next 2 weeks at least, then I hope I might get a bit of a rest before my next new build in March.

This year is on track to be my highest turnover and profit so far.

Recession, what recession? Certainly different up here.

The **** fabrication yard (former oil platform fabrication yard that's been closed many many years) is now set to re open in the Autumn building wind turbines. That will be a major boost to the economy up here, creating an estimated 2000 jobs eventually.

All tradesmen I meet, plumbers, joiners etc all seem to be busy.

Looks like moving north of the border 8 years ago was a good move. Come up and join us in the autumn if you fancy a change of career into the wind turbine industry.

We`re still flat out; though not much in the way of forward bookings - I KNOW the next couple of weeks are covered (but that has been the situation since last summer, and haven`t been sat waiting for the `phone to ring - luckily......)

KME

'kin mental, booking work into July/Aug!

Just took a pencil it in for beg March that I can't do!

So I'll have to move things around as it is too much for me to turn away.

Still skint & struggling though as I'm still suffering from the remnants of the old co!

Flat out - 97% domestic.

Just taken on an apprentice 'cos I need the help.

I have been going further afield recently though - was nearly 10 miles from home last week and have got to go as far as N Cov in a couple of weeks time (note to self: check passport).

Best get

some of this

and get the apprentice to reel it out the back of the van so you can find your way home!!!

Was ticking over quite reasonable before, during and just after Christmas...

But this last week & half it seems to be kicking up a gear again...

even the little "emergency unplaned work" I am finding tricky to fit in at a reasonable time scale..

Last Monday had an old customer ringing up needed a cooker connecting up at flat he rents out...

Curry's or Comet wouldn't connect it cuz no connection plate...

He had to wait a few days before I could even pop in and sort out a small job like that..

Sunday night another bloke rang up with some dodgy bathroom lights needing looking at..

can't get over there till next Monday afternoon.

Got quite a few bits of work where need to schedule and time things around other trades...

Today was with a utility room fitter bloke..

Last week had to meet up with garden office installers..

Got a bathroom fitter next week to tie in with..

and a Kitchen fitter..

Tomorrow I am back at a job where the Garage door fitters have hopefully done their bits...

so it looks like quite a few domestic properties are still doing the home improvements ..

with associated electrical works...

So I am quite happy work wise at the moment..

:D

Just about scraping by. Interesting looking at this thread - ABC, The Godfather - time moves on! Think a lot of this is geographical. Those in the right areas are flat out. We're not - but it is February - and it is Cornwall!

I am flat out have three new houses to second fix, one old house to second fix and finish first fix in extension, Kitchen/utility to second fix, a commercial job which is ongoing and loads of smaller jobs. I have actually had to take on a part trained guy as I cannot keep up at the moment. Hopefully it will carry on.

Me and the other spark are run ragged at our place here there and every where.

We are flat out which is a good thing as there are two of us. So far in the last 5 months of having our own business I think we have had a total of 2 days where we haven't been on the tools. January was much better than expected and Feb is looking sweet so far. Just have to keep building and keep the momentum going as we went Limited and vat reg in January so all of a sudden our overheads have increased significantly (insurances, accountancy / professional fees etc). Onwards and upwards!!

I'm only working part time at the moment, just Saturdays on top of a 9-5 job, but there seems to be more requests for work in the last week.
