How to tell if I have a socket that is suitable to be a cooker conneciton unit?

Hello all.

Just want to say thank you for all of the help and advice. My cooker arrived this past weekend, and it came with a standard three pin plug attached. I booked an electrician last week to come over and move my socket to behind the cooker, ans the switch for the socket away from it (below a wall cabinet), as that seems the safest thing to do.

I was of the opinion that any device that pulls leccy for along time should not be on a plug hence boilers are usually wired to FCU not plug and socket (argument falls down in the light of PCs and TVs mind you). Personally I've never liked ovens on a 13A plug even if I have seen it done many a time. Personally i would stick with the plan to install cooker circuit and have cooker outlet to connect to. Just in case you ditch gas in favour of electric. It's relatively cheap to install whilst kitchen works are going on, difficult to install at a later date.
