I am aware of this

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partition_of_Ireland

and I am aware it was probably a bad idea (20 20 hindsight is marvellous) resulting in a terrible compromise leading to the troubles and eventually the current situation via a lot of deaths. The interesting part of the wiki listing is the original intention to return the North to Irish control. Interesting how it parallels the division of India.

Mmmm,

You do understand Wikipedia is not always accurate,?

I haven't read that particular argument,  but, if that is your knowledge on the situation then I may suggest you are flawed.

wiki doen't do the nuiances. like whose family fell out with who etc etc. It's more a statement of facts and written many years after events like all history is.

I'm intrigued Steps, you seem to suggest the Ulster kingdom is occupied for a  justifiable reason (other than winning the battle of the Boyne). So what is the reasoning?

Short version,

Ulster is 9counties, northern Ireland is made up of 6 of those counties,

Northern Ireland is not occupied, during partition in 1922 those 6counties REMAINED British at the request of the inhabitants.

so it is 6 counties....

Ok where did the inhabitant of the 6 counties come from? As I understand it mostly Scotland, encouraged to settle to keep the locals under control.

lets get something else straight, it wasn't Britains to keep or remain.

The clue is in the name Ireland - north and south. It was Ireland when it was invaded and its people subjugated and subsequently treated as 2nd class citizens, it is still Ireland now. The populations have never assimilated, unlike the previous invaders like the Vikings. The British treated the Irish as not much more than slaves, is it any real surprise they have neither forgotten of forgiven, in the same way you certainly havn't Steps
