We'll have to talk on the phone bud, you must have a wicked accent, lowand Scots, brought up in N Ireland, worked all over, now in Manchester!!! ;)
I talk really posh for work though.

Steps,

I must confess, yes it is the Welsh National Anthem, however it was the 1st set of lyrics I found on Wikipedia.

I am ashamed that I don't speak it myself, nor do I know all the words, my kids do both as they are in Welsh language education.

shame on you,

I regard English as my 2nd language,

even my missus(english born and bred) and my best friends missus(english born and bred)[living overseas now],

I think both agree,

understand us alone, but after a few minutes together or with compatriates they start to lose the conversation very quickly as to what is being said.

we tend to speak a very broad dialect of english intermixed with lowland scots gaelic, and that is a preferred language, but some areas even I almost need translations for......

yin not yin. !

There is one thing I will always keep in mind when talking of the Scots, Welsh or those from Northern Island..........

They are Scottish yes..........

They are Welsh Yes............

They are Irish Yes...........

But they are also part of the United Kingdom.

With the exception of the Northern Irish they are also part of Great Britain.

This makes them my fellow countrymen so I offer my deep respect as such, regardless of accent or history.

One strange thing which I find so interesting is that we never seem to hear of problems with the Chinese community in UK. They seem to integrate completely and never cause trouble acting as responsible citizens and respecting our culture and laws.

I know when I visit the area of Liverpool known as "China Town" I am always made welcome and the people are just so friendly and helpful.

We had a week end break in Dublin recently and we were astonished as to how difficult it was to find and Irish person but even with that problem we found all the foreigners were friendly and polite so we can not lump them all together for judgement along with those who use religion as a weapon of war.

Has anyone else an opinion on this ???

Pretty much agree atually!

Here's a story, not like me I know!!!

Was in UMIST for a little while, we all went for grub & beer on campus, it got to after midnight & about 10 of us got the munchies, so we went for a Chinese, China Town is within easy walking distance.

However, we did not know where, or where was good.

One of the guys doorstepped a tramp very nicely I may add and asked for suggestions, he had no idea, however, we were outside a local park full of "hoodies", so off goes the tramp and collars these guys and asks for us, they were terrified!

However, back he comes with some suggestions.

Our guy gave him a quid or 2, not too much as he was p****d already!

So off we went, found this restaurant.

In we walked by now prob about 02:00, it was quite busy, full of Chinese.

First of all it went a little quiet, we had a table then it was excellent everyone there was friendly, we were rowdy, but polite and we had a great time!

Even went back another time!

OK we had that beautiful Welsh anthem and I will admit I do not know the words to it.

Here is another anthem some may recognise but let us have absolute honest answers to my question no bull S H ONE T please................

How many readers know all the words to this anthem ???????

God Save the Queen

God save our gracious Queen,

Long live our noble Queen,

God save the Queen!

Send her victorious,

Happy and glorious,

Long to reign over us,

God save the Queen!

O lord God arise,

Scatter our enemies,

And make them fall!

Confound their knavish tricks,

Confuse their politics,

On you our hopes we fix,

God save the Queen!

Not in this land alone,

But be God's mercies known,

From shore to shore!

Lord make the nations see,

That men should brothers be,

there is at least 3 versions of words for

God save the Queen

that I know of,

so would there actually be a correct official version of it.?

I think most traditional national anthems have different versions do they not.?

ps, make that 4,

Ive never saw your lyrics before,

, you have no where near enough lines for even a shortened version.

and what about the version with the about the lost verse.?

I agree with you there are so many different versions..........

Have you heard about the version which is said to be racist because someone says it is against the Scots.

The fact still remains....I know of not one person, including me, who can honestly say they know all the words to the national anthem.

UK National Anthem Lyrics

United Kingdom

God Save the Queen

Long live our noble Queen,

God save the Queen!

Happy and glorious,

From shore to shore!

Lord make the nations see,

That men should brothers be,

And form one family,

The wide world ov'er

From every latent foe,

From the assasins blow,

God save the Queen!

O'er her thine arm extend,

For Britain's sake defend,

Our mother, prince, and friend,

God save the Queen!

Thy choicest gifts in store,

On her be pleased to pour,

Long may she reign!

May she defend our laws,

And ever give us cause,

To sing with heart and voice,

God save the Queen!
