Hi, I found some lights on Etsy from a U.S. company which I'd like to buy/install in my house in the UK. I know nothing re compliance of U.S. lighting when importing to UK or how we'd go about installing given the different voltage of the two countries.

Here's the link with light details:

https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/110316398/pendant-lighting-with-tapered-clear?ref=shop_home_feat_2

Would anything need to be done to them before installation? Would it be straightforward for an electrician to do?

Any advice on this would be gratefully received. Thanks :)

Tamara

Whoever imports these items whether for their own use or not would be deemed responsible to ensure that they comply with all the statute law requirements in place in the UK for them to be installed & used legally, your installation electrician cannot do this for you.

I would say:

1) American lamps screw in, ours are bayonet cap, Yes we do have screw in lamps, but allegedly ours are metric thread, USA use imperial (They wont fit)

2) To be sure, you would need to have them re wired. (Different flex rating)

3) You would need to get a suitable (physical) size of lamp that fits (see 1 above)

4) £102 for an oven dish seems expensive

5) You will also have to pay import duty and VAT +? (Storage, if impounded)

6) They are only decorative, not meant to give much light, so you will need a lot of them.

7) Damn ugly.

The spec says they have E26 lampholders rated at max 250w & 250v, So they will work fine  with UK electrics.

The type of lightbulb shown is availible here, i have forgotten the name but be aware you must have them dimmed to get the effect and so they will last more than a week.
