Hi,

when testing for dead I prefer to use my cheapo clamp meter rather than the fluke t100 which I know is wrong but I am getting readings when dead of 12v to 45v. Is this inductance from other circuits in parallel?

Thanks

Quite possibly, dead open circuit conductors can have induced voltages due to cables running along side each other through a property. Such as the runs under floors, drops down to fusebox etc.

Doc H.

Probably, I had a problem once where I fitted and led downlighter which would glow very slightly due to inductance from other circuits when turned off. Downlighter was situated close to CU and various cables ran past same point feeding other circuits, so basically there wasn't enough resistance to prevent it glowing. Changed it back to halogen lamp in the end.

Have you tried de-energizing the whole installation when getting these readings?

If the readings disappear then I'd go for inductance, if not then I'd go for cheapo meter.

would be easier to use the T100...

Thanks spin will try that when I return to 2nd fix. Cheers
