Can you apply diversity rule to induction hob when calculating CPD and cable size?

Just been doing some research on internet and there was a post on here saying that you cant due to the boost function on these appliances.

BTW I was just asked for advice as friend is changing his hob and having some other non electrical work done by kitchen fitters who have said the original 6mm cable needs to replaced with 10mm, so just needed to confirm before giving him any conflicting advice.

For your info:

The consumer unit is on opposite side of kitchen wall, and cable run is only about 6 metres in total clipped direct and then buried in plaster on kitchen side.

So what load is the hob then?

Is an oven unit on the same circuit?

Max demand for new induction hob is 7.2KW, and yes he has an electric built in oven but I need to go and have a look to see what the KW power of that is. He thinks its all on one cct.

Just needed the info really on whether diversity can be allowed for on induction hob before I go over and have a look for him and calculate his cable sizes.

thanks anyway

Oh, dear!

Well, I applied diversity when I helped my mate install a 5 ring induction hob and double oven onto a new 32A/6mm circuit. No problems.

You could always put the 6mm on a 40A if you're concerned about tripping. The cable will still be protected with the install methods you mention.

Yes I did say to my mate that he could quite probably go upto 40 amp breaker if needed as cable run is not long and would not need derating due to the fact that he told me that it wasnt going through insulation.

I thought that either the kitchen fitters are after extra work, or they are going for the one size fits all scenario.

My mate has already been ripped off by an electrician in the past who changed his split load board (only 10 years old) for a dual rcd when he could have put an rcbo in easily and a plasterer who likes speed bumps on the walls. So would just hate to see him ripped off again.

has any one had any problems to date with applying diversity to induction hobs, is your mates still running problem free PC.

i may have a job to price, he wants induction hob and double oven and current circuit is 32A/6mm ref method 100 which derates cable to 34A i think.

thats good, i may go down the diversity route then thanks mate
