hi

can someone please sanity check what i'm going to do for a customer ?

background - customer has existing DB with one RCD and one spare way (on the RCD).  They want a number of garden lights connected up (all low voltage led). From the existing DB i'll use the 40AMP spare MCB (they don't have an electric shower installed).

my plan is this:

From the DB run a 6mm cable to another DB in the pantry (I can get easy access across the outside of the house and in through the air vent of the pantry.

From the new DB - i'll run the various circuits (4 in total) for the outside led lights.  I'll use 1.5mm armored cable to each of the transformers which are IP65 rated.

Also, from this DB i'll run 4mm armored cable to the garage for a lights and a radial circuit.

everything will be RCD protected and 40 AMP would be more than enough power.

what do you think ?  Other option is to change the main DB which customer doesn't want to do - as it's located and build into a cupboard which would have to ripped out because space.  Customer asked if I can put a new DB side ways - told him NO !

Hi Electrics_New,

If you do decide to consolidate everything into one DB, then try this idea:-

Take the guts out of the existing DB and replace the RCD and MCBs with my Compact RCBOs and a Main Switch. This creates a total of 3 spare ways, which should satisfy your expansion needs. No ripping out and no space problems for existing circuit conductors.

If 3 extra ways are not enough and one of my bigger enclosures won't fit the space horizontally, then mount it vertically, as the customer suggests. I can supply labels for vertically mounted DBs, so that the labels read horizontally, no different from a Commercial installation.

Contact me if you need further info.
