A pumpkin cut is instead of inserting
A pad saw at a straight angle into the plaster wall you make a cut at an angle on the side almost creating a 75 to 45 degree angle. Once this is done you snap the plaster board allowing it to be still attached via the skin. You can then push against the plaster board and tape it back whilst fishing cables or drilling through joists. This allows you to put it back flush when finished and put plaster board tape on it with filler and sand back.
