I am doing the 2392 at the moment and we have been told to test insulation resistance between Line and Neutral, Line and Earth and Neutral and Earth, which is standard practise. we were also told on a lighting circuit you must incorporate the strappers, by operating the switch(es) does this mean, test Line and Neutral once, operate switch, test Line and Neutral again incorporating strappers, then test between Line and Earth once, and Neutral and earth once, or have I miss understood what was said, cheers (Meerkat)

The tests all need to be repeated with the switches toggled, so that ALL conductors which may become live, are insulation tested. You could link neutral and earth, and test between them and the live, rather than doing both individually

so either test X 2 incorporating L/N/E, or test X 6 L/N,L/E,E/N, switching inbetween each test, have I got it right, cheers Kme, really appreciate it, (Meerkat)

There won't normally be a neutral accompanying the strappers so usually only operate the switch during the L - E test.

You only have to operate one of the switches once on a normal two way lighting circuit.

If you have an intermediate you'll need to operate that as well.

.

Just to be clear, this only applies to T&E and 3-core&E installations:D

If it's singles in conduit and the strappers are run along with neutrals of the circuit then you would need to operate the switches during the L - N test as well.

You wouldn't need to operate the switch during the N - E test, of course:)

thanks for that ADS certainly have a better understanding of that now, thanks once again, (Meerkat) Applaud Smiley

I'm sorry, Meerkat,

all I've managed to do is confuse the issue.

I'll start again......For your 2392 I would do the following:

After completing the prep for IR tests

Test between L - E then operate one switch of each set of two-way switches.............test L - E again

operate each intermediate switch (if there are any)...and test again L - E

Repeat this procedure for L - N

Then...test between earth bar and neutral bar/s at the CU

Hope this helps:)
