I usually fetch fish & chips around 7.00 on Saturdays  , I'm in the queue and notice three customers who , as they were being served , were either texting or actually talking on their cell phones , none said thank you to the lady serving , just paid, took their change , took their order, still talking carp on the phone and left .

One bloke was about to pay when his phone rang , so he left his order on the counter , walked over to the window and took the call , the lady had to move his order, serve the next two  until he decided to return , pay and leave.

So bloody rude .

Or am I just an old phart who doesn't even take his phone to the chippie.?

They are probably the ones that use there phones while driving. I find it very sad the way the world is going I think eventually will will all die due to another atom bomb.

Deke, when on call I have to have (and answer) my phone with me, no option.

I would always excuse myself and at least acknowledge people serving me, but the calls could be important. Or they could be ignorant. You can't make the call easily.

Apache needs his phone, his calls are very important, but most are not!

My calls are important I answer each and every call, but I always have manners and in the above example I would always ask the person calling to allow myself a few minutes to complete what I was doing prior to the call. I very often find myself apologising for using my phone in public.

The wife always seems to call me just as i am at the till ready to pay.  I think she has implanted a tracking device in me.  Probably (something like Arnie had on Total Recall) stuck up the back of my nose!!!

Luckily, and as you may say respectul to the person with whom  I am with face to face, i always try to put off speaking to her, the Mrs that is!

Dont like being rude in public!

I don't think that the phone would make much difference in many cases like these..

More often than not I find that people in general are getting ruder and ruder,,, no "please" or "thank you" for many occasions when the rest of us appreciative people would utter those little words that make such a difference

Please or thank you doesnt cost anything, does it Noz!  Totally agree on that.  However, if the parents dont instill manners on their offspring, then courtesy and manners will soon be non-existant.

My wife's 83year old auntie hates mobile phones etc.  she said soon the world will be full of people that never speak to each other unless its a text message, facebook or email.

A little story that happened today.... (Genuine)

Some of our kids were sailing on the lake and the guys in the safety boat spotted some young kids up to no good over the road so they phoned my Mrs and we went over to investigate.... Anyway they were in the process of nicking some ladders when we stopped them.. We got them to put them back and got chatting to them,, usual stuff, asking them if they wanted to end up in youth offenders and in jail when they grew up, that kind of thing...

Somewhere along the conversation one of them said "My dad has told me not to speak to strangers",,, so I fire back "did he not tell you not to steal also??" to which I received a "No" and a blank stare... they were only 9,10 and 12!!!

So trying to pay an interest in them, which I doubt they get at home, we took them over to our area and gave them a hot drink and biscuits and kept them chatting.... after a few minuites the police turned up and took them away... they arrested them... one was already on an ASBO and would probably end up going into an offenders institution and the other two had previously had words and will probably now receive an ASBO.... hopefully they will get some help from one of the local police schemes that give the local kids something positive to do

Well its a bit like when driving , you flash your lights to let someone come through first ,    if they sweep by ignoring you , you feel slighted , but a wave , thumbs up or flash back and alls well with the world.

'Patche  yes I appreciate certain people would need to answer their phones ,  yourself as a vet,  doctors, emergency services etc but what I was seeing and hearing was just juvenile twaddle TBH .

And I 'd agree ...the same people would be doing it while driving ........they are so arrogant and stupid they would risk mowing someone in your family down rather than not answer a stupid text about ****** all .

Some rich asian guy's son was so arrogant as he crossed traffic lights by us at 60MPH ,  two girls crossing,  instead of breaking , blew his horn then mowed them down .......a year ago this week ... killed the one  and the pregnant one lost her baby.

Think he got 7 years.

I think it is pig ignorant, end of.

I always say please and thankyou...manners is one of the few things in life that costs nothing

A wholesaler who ( I have fallen out with for this vry reason) will be part way through serving me when their cordless phone rings, which they have clipped to their belts. They stop serving me, answer the phone, then disappear into the warehouse to see if they have what the caller wants!

When confronted their answer was " we answer the phone when you call........"

" well dont if you are serving somebody else, tw@s....." Was my somewhat curt response

Sly very sly Noz.

Pretend to befriend them whilst all the time your waiting on the police to show! I wouldn't mind but the kid should of took his fathers advice and not spoke to a stranger!!!

there is a place near me who similar to that - there are loads of staff there. anyone dealing with you wont answer the phone, but if the phone rings before they start serving you they will answer, which can mean a long wait at times. they dont like it when you phone them from inside the shop for attention though...

I always put phone on silent when at site meetings or in shops etc, I will also let voicemail kick in and return call as soon as possible.

What does annoy is those people who walk around with an earpiece in chatting away and most often very loud, and people (mostly old gits, and older than me) out shopping/walking with a phone clipped on the front of their belt, what's wrong with their pocket, what's that all about, hey look I have a mobile phone that 25 years old.

No. The answer phone would have then kicked in and you get a panicked person leaving a long message, then unavailable when we try to call the number back etc etc.
but its very easy to answer call and say i'll call you back in a minute, after i've pulled over somewhere safe, got served, etc etc.

Come on Pache, why run the risk of answering the phone just as you say, I'll have chips with that? Imagine the face of the poor horse owner on the other end? It'd be like reliving the Horse burger saga again!!!
