In the office again.
I`ve been asked to do a favour on Saturday evening, and swap out a faulty Siemens drive for an extract fan.

I`ve got no details of the drive itself - but may need some parameters setting.

Question is:

Is it easiest to interrogate the original drive, write down the params, and set `em up on the new unit; or is there an easier option?

if the existing is dead and wont power up, then probably no use. i guess the manufacturer may be able to get data from any internal memory, but apart from that, no idea

if it powers up enough to get into programming, then you should be able to get the info from it

or you could get Canoe

I would rather reprogram new drives from scratch than run the risk of inheriting problems from the original settings. The agents are usually very helpful if you're not familiar with their particular model, they'll often send their sales engineer to assist with commissioning if you ask them nicely.

Mart,

I suspect that you will not have time to do what Marvo suggests.

If you are swapping like for like.

Note EXACTLY the original drive parameters.

Install the new drive.

Note EXACTLY the new drive default parameters.

Check against motor data and other available info.

Modify new to old, noting ANY changes in detail.

Try out.

Get as much info as possible before you do the job & discuss with Boaty & Myself! ;)

Local?

When?

Help needed?

If so I may have comms sw & cables for the drive, if not Boaty may have the SW & may have the cables! ;)

I have a field PG with much of the Siemens sw & cables with it.

However, if its a Micromaster, I suspect Boaty will be anti! :)

Marvo:

Unlikely to be possible at 10.00p.m. on a Saturday night - its a kitchen extract in a hotel, so I can`t do it until the kitchen finishes....(gas interlock!!!)

Paul:

Like for like - tick.

Motor data - if its within an extract housing, I might not have access......

Swansea central (SA1)

Late Saturday night

Apparently the existing unit throws up a comms error intermittently - the HVAC guys looked into it, and were told that a replacement drive was needed - but they`re not available to fit it..........

I've just taken on  a job with a couple of these Siemens drive. There's a cd in there with a whole suite of software on it. I could send to you using say www.wetransfer.com but not back there until Monday!

Learnt my lesson a long time ago on SEW drives to copy the parameter sets from the actual drive as soon as you can.

KME,

You're on a hiding to nothing!

I'll come down 11:45 Sunday morning & take over coz it'll still be goosed then if that's all the info you have, and none of it will be your fault!

Perhaps we need to look into this a bit more to ensure it goes OK for you. ;)

Was home by midnight.

Old unit had a BOP - new one didn`t - not an issue.

Paddle-pusher: Yup, the settings are all coded - BUT the manuals were all there, and, to be honest, it wasn`t anywhere near as bad as some I`ve done.

Twas a favour for a guy who`s on holiday, new drive was already there, waiting for me ( MM420) - direct swap out.

Once we could drop the gas offline, it was probably about 40 mins to get all the codes from the old unit; and then just swap out & recode - test through the BMS to ensure it does what its told...G`night............

I didn`t spec the unit, and I couldn`t give a kippers` dik if it falls over in 12 months time - I fitted what I was given, and it works. Job done.

Thanks for the advice though gang - though to be honest I didn`t see the "don`t do it" posts until today.............

Canoe,

I already had the cable, I have acquired the BOP adaptor, so save the postage he can borrow the one I have mate.

I pulled in a few favours as KME has helped me out in the past.

KME,

adaptor & lead here if you need it mate let me know.

Thanks - wish I`d known earlier, its already ordered!

Thank you anyway bud - need to find out what`s wrong soonish; they`ve bypassed the drive , and another bit I`m not going to put on here; so need it resolving.

I`m hoping to have the cable tomorrow - faulty drive is on my van, so I`ll just hook it to the lappie & download the old params list (hopefully "just"), then do the same with the new one, and see what differences there are between them. With any luck, can time it so that I can do dead tests on the load at the same time!
