I'm thinking of buying one , around 51 plate, 70ish k miles on it, for around £1700.

good idea or not? Mpg not really a issue as it will do very very limited mileage.

Will this be cheapish , luxury(ish) motoring?

Parts will be expensive, A mate has one lovely car but it suffers a few electrical problems which he refuses to pay for so he has no alarm and sometimes the central locking won't work..

I'm on the look out for an audi a6/s6 :)

Group 15, got a quote that I think is reasonable. Never thought I'd say that about insureance.

O yeah if anything goes wrong I would be around breakers. Not sure if these have a history of electrical problems.

Had a 56 reg 2.2D up until last year. It was a fabulous car and I would certainly recommend it.

Unfortunately, they stopped making it in 2008, otherwise I would have bought another.

I now have a Honda Accord, which I think is as good as the X type, plus better equipped.

Couldn't  afford an XF, but will probably get a used one in a few years time.

I have a 51 plate 3L sport silver

its lush,,,,pants on fuel around town but a long run on the cruise its good

electrical problems not had any..........but......

a major issue with these vehicles is the headlight adjusters they snap really easily. there are repair kits which work well

also the headlight lamp retaining clips are easily mislaid and guess what Jaguar don't do them ,,,,,, scrappy/ebay job

the car is lush though  110k on the clock had it 4 years I think

ps

my insurance with full no claims age 49  £320  parked on driveway

If thats what you want , Wozz, go for it .    I'd like a Jaguar XJ8   I think they're called  but it would be impactical.

Theres a saying I use though ,   it applied recently to the manager of my local wholesaler who bought a Beamer that quickly developed some expensive faults.    Saying is.... " A BMW owner on Ford Focus wages"   I've come across a few now who cut the flash but can't cope with the BMW /  Audi / Merc charges from main dealers .

My mate has a Merc on a business loan and uses it as his work vehicle.

Wozz

its 2k    made up of ford bits but built to a high spec  so its going to last as though it was 5 years old

my car, I have known for 6 years

treat yourself  what will you get for 2k ????   54/55 plate Vectra ?????

its only money

another selling point is that when my van was of road I used it for light domestic jobs,,,,,,,,it justified my prices

Just Googled XJ8     and its NOT the one I'd like , so don't anyone rush out to buy me one !!

What the hell is the one I like then ?    Its a two seater sporty type thing , not an E type , much later .

I can't see them online so I don't know what they are ,  you don't see too many about .  Anyone any idea?

Maybe perhaps not the "luxury" you were looking for, but a friend of mine has a late MG F (2011)

He recons you can get a good one for under £2k and they are now appreciating rather than depreciating.

A good cheap fun car that won't cost much to run.  I might be tempted myself, but my Mrs would probably insist I sell my Landrover, and I'm not doing that.

I am going to look at a Bently sports tomorrow thats for sale at a local garage. Not to buy it, just to look!!!!

It appears that no one ever sells their Landy !
