Jopo , any chance of an insight into how things are in Aus ?

Do you work for a contractor or self employed ? Do you work long hours ? Is there a lot of work around ? Is industry busy etc? Does filling your tank cost a small fortune ?

I mean, we all know usual everyday stuff about Aussies ....Average Aussie bloke owns a sheep farm bigger than England , wears one of those hats with the corks hanging to keep the talking kangaroos away, and when he,s not killing crocodiles he'll be surfing in the outback or sitting round a barbie singing Slim Dusty and John Williamson songs and waving to the Flying Doctor!!

On the news tonight. Australians more gloomy than recession-hit nations

Goods and services tax is 10%

Petrol/diesel tax @ nobody knows.

Immigration ......illegal entries or boat people has been a big issue. however both major parties have agreed on a solution last week regarding "off shore processing" that should slow things down abit.

Benefit scroungers ....uncontrolled.

In Darwin fuel prices are about $1.70 per litre

Employers contribute a mandatory up from 9% this year to 12% of salary/wage to your nominated superannuation fund. Indexed over the next three years? 1% per year.

House prices when purchased back in the early nineties was about 2.75 times my annual salary. Now the mean employee average is 8-9 times of the house price.

Rental properties are achieving about 5-6% of property value per annum. I.e a $650K property

is demanding minimum $650.00 rent.

Australia is suffering from what we call 2 and 3 speed economies. some areas are going really bad and others are overheating and having excessive overinflated housing and rental problems. I.e DARWIN. So when our treasure states the AUS economy is in fantastic one region is seeing bad negative growth and the other is going gangbusters. All thanks to China of course.

Where i come from we are in the midsts of commencing a $12 billon dollar project for a gas lines being piped from out to sea about 600 miles at a guess to Darwin o be piped into ships and every litre is to be shipped to JAPAN. Our pathetic state goverement could not / did not have the balls to barter with these big players to supply X amount of gigalitres of natural gas to our power generation plants.

Cost of electricity is about $0.20 c per KWH for domestic use up here in DARWIN. No offpeak or tariff available in the domestic market.

I am an employee of a company that has many disciplines. Security,CCTV and access control. Electrical, Fire, Roller door maintenance.

I hold the contractors license for the company. I manage the electrical division. Not big. 5 blokes + myself in the electrical division ( 4sparks and 2 apprentices) we turned over $1.51 million last financial just gone. Was a great year. Sure the boss was pleased. Sadly the way the books are set up it is difficult to get a accurate profit and loss statement for the elec division. turnover is easy and accurate to calculate. Boss never did tell me what the estimate P&L was for my division. Wonder why.

Work (office) is a 8 minute drive from home. Get to work about 7.05AM and leave around 6.00 PM.

Accadacca are brilliant. I did see them in Darwin. Superb. Along with Dire Straits as well in the 80's.

Also is it my imagination or is there a case of i want what you have. younger brother syndrome having the hots for your missus. i reckon harry wants a go at that.
