We used to have mercury ignitrons on a multi-spot welder. It is a pity it was scrapped five years ago, i could have got you a photo.

Word got out I was the see the works manager about donating the MAR’s to Manchester science museum. Out of pure spite the charge hand put a sledgehammer through them. The manager agreed they should be saved but the deed had been done while I was in the office. A bit of our history wrecked for 30lb of mercury!

London science museum has exactly the same model as ours.
