KA RATING OF BS60898

A friend of mine phoned and said that when his lightbuld blew the mcb in his fuse board went bang .I've gone to his flat and checked the ze of the supply which was 0.04 ohms this would give me a high PFC of 6KA the fuse in the board is a 6 amp BSEN 60898 type b with a KA rating of 6KA does this been up rating to a BSEN 60898 with a KA rating of 10KA

230/0.04 = 5750A, so a 6KA breaker should have been ok.

Earthing is TN-C-S PME WOULD THIS MAKE A DIFFERENCE

No sorry, I hadn't read the question fully, but 10KA breakers should do the trick.

No but every time his bulbs go it goes bang and I though by getting a fuse with a higher KA rating this would solve the problem

Don't think it will just means MCB is doing its job.

Well It just doesnt seem normal for the mcb to bang when the bulbs blow I thought It would just trip

what type of lamp is blowing? and changing 10kA breaker will not change anything.

Yes the circuit as normal as can be he just that when the bulbs go the fuse trips but with a bang I'm mean the fuse still works so is this sometime to worry about or not

What is the make of the MCB? is it one of the cheaper brands. Is the 'bang' more a loud mechanical click due to the spring mechanism? Have you heard this 'bang' or is it just the customers description.

What is the Zs at the nearest and the furthest lighting point?

Many GLS lamps will lift a 6A MCB...when filament blows the 2 'formers' ( V shaped gubbins) that hold the filament up often touch together for a split second causing a 'dead short' available PFC at the lamp then blows the fault apart, in effect it 'blows clear'. In the mean time the MCB trips. Only my opinion and I have been wrong before [see wife for details]

I don't no Wat the zs is and the noise is a loud bang I cannot see any damage to the mcb and it is a wylex so is it something he should worry about or not as there is no damage that I can see
