when installing a cooker extractor fan hood in the kitchen, can i take the power from the ring into a FCU then to the extractor OR can i take it from the cooker circuit FCU and add another one next to it and then extend upwards....

many thanks

The cooker should really be on a dedicated circuit, breaking into the ring is fine.AndyGuiness Drink
Most cooker outlets have a single socket outlet. Can't see why the fan coyuldn't share it? You are not going to use one without the other?

the cooker is already on its own circuit, and wanted to know if it is ok to knick a feed from the circuit and extend upwards.

>>> can i take the feed straight from the cooker double pole isolator and go up, or do i need to install another FCU next to the main cooker switch then go up...<<<

The integrated 13a socket outlet on a cookers double pole switch has been taken into account when the cable sizing has happened. I have always kept an electric cooker on its own circuit, I havent branched off.AndyGuiness Drink
Interesting! My extractor fan is spured off the cooker circuit!

Can't see any harm will come from it. Damn sight less load than if I plugged the kettle into the 13A socket!

Maybe not 'proper' :|

Is it a reg or just good practice Andy?

What size of cable is the cooker circuit? what size of MCB is in the CU for this circuit, Is it a FCU or 45A DP switch on the end of the circuit as you have stated both?

the cooker feed is done in 6mm csa T&E, with a 32A mcb breaker.

would u say it is better to come off the ring, or come off the cooker circuit at the cooker plug socket... ?

Ring every time when possible.

The only way the other would be acceptable is if you ran a 4mm to a FCU from cooker isolator, then connected the hood to the FCU. you would struggle to get a 4mm in with the 6mm.

I see nothing to say you can't, I mean its only the same as putting a plug on the end of the hood cable and plugging it into the cooker outlet 13A skt. As long as everything is identified, labelled, calculated and certified.

one last question, will i need to install a double pole isolation switch at the same level like u do for an electric cooker?
