Had a call from the lodgers last week - There is water dripping from the combi boiler (which is a wall mounted Vailiant ECotec jobbie). Boiler still working though.

Went round to inspect and sure enough when the boiler fired up (with the casing removed) there was water dripping out of the inspection hatch of the combustion chamber.

Phoned up my plumber who wearily explained that he had had ten of these calls that day - and to go outside and check the condensate outlet which was likely frozen.

This was indeed the problem, frozen up outlet causing the condensate to back up into the boiler. Fortunately it was resolved before the boiler was ruined by water dripping into the electrics.

Removed the blockage, and temporarily venting to fresh air.

Might be happening somewhere near you guys so hope this is of some use.

Snap!

Had call from friend Sunday, No heat/hot water.

Combi in loft - Lock out on boiler (Potterton Prev 30HE)

Fault light, Burner or Condensate fault)

Had a look and Condensate Trap full to brim and fault contacts shorted by water. (Very high tech, two spade terminals on top of trap, when full water shorts across LV contacts)

Spent TWO hours de-frosting UN LAGGED waste pipe going outside.

Went back today to install Frost stat kit in loft and lag pipe.
