Good Morning.

Hope someone can assist.

my mate decided it was a good idea to replace the light fitting in his bedroom but became unstuck.

there is 2 x 2.5 mm twin and earths and 1 x 2.5 twin with 2 red cables (i presume for the switch wires)

How can he wire this up correctly as now he can only turn on the rest of the lights upstairs if he has the switch on in his bedroom.

is it a simple case of putting 1 switch wire to each of the conductors on the twin and earths and ensuring he has the light fitting conductor correctly in one of them....please assist, many thanks

Is he doing it two plate or three plate?

Your post looks like it is old colours.

yes its quite an old house so yes it is in the old wiring colours......he didnt make a wiring diagram before he disconnected everything hence come unstuck so i joined 1 switch wire to each of the twin and earths and obviously connected both neutrals and earths...at the moment to have the lights on upstairs the light switch needs to be turned on in the bedroom so do i just need to swap the switch wires around?

thank you for your help with that Dave, it is being changed from a ceiling rose to one of those LED slunky things with the 4 leds on...how would he connect that inside the LED fitting?

Just the same, except the three wires connected to the middle "loop in" terminal have to be joined together somehow, usually just a choc bloc connector if the light fitting does not have a specific loop in terminal
