A lady wants me to put a light into her summer house.

It would be a major job to get a cable there from the c/u and with her only needing a light, I wondered about connecting into an outdoor socket that is only about 8 metres away, this socket is on a radial, on 2.5mm cable protected by a 16A mcb the circuit is covered by a 30ma RCD.

Can anyone see a problem with connecting a 2.5 SWA into the socket, running the cable underground, into the summer house, terminating there, into an FCU, then running the light from there?

Thanks for any help.

That's the other thing I was going to ask!

The earthing is TNCS in the house, what would be best, using the SWA armour as the earthing, or putting a rod in?

I know they say it's a no no to export the earth.

yes mate that sounds fine use a metal clad fused spur to terminate the armoured into, and put a plastic type dome stuffing gland or conduit to the light which ever suits, just dont put the cable from light into spur using a gromiit think of things been unable to get to the terminals like metal screwdrivers being poked in etc ;)

id just run from a spur in house in swa, 13 amp fuse or 10 amp fuse even! then in swa to summerhouse, and then in to metal clad fuse spur, with 3 amp fuse fitted, from there in 1.omm twin and skin to light job done, oh an use 3 core dont souly rely on your armouring as your earth use 3 coure and that gives you a proper supply earthing conductor to use ;) hth:|

Yes sorry, that was the other thing I meant to put on.

Great thanks for the confirmation. :D

I wouldn't be exporting that earth but thats just me.

I suppose if you are just fitting plastic sockets and plastic fittings then there is much less of a risk than metal clad sockets that you could come into contact with?
