I have a double switch which I would like to use to control two lights. There are two cables coming in to the switch area from two existing lights. I have a feed from the consumer unit to go to the switch but am unsure how to correctly wire it. I enclose a diagram which hopefully will be of some use. At present there is a link between the two 'one' terminals (common).

Thanks

Brian

Do you mean you are wanting to replace the existing switch with an new switch front. Or are you wanting to have some additional lights controlled as well?

I don't know if you viewed my switch upload but the first one was the wrong diagram. The present one is correct. To answer your question. I have the switch as shown which isn't connected to anything. I want to connect it to the two cables from the two lights and the cable from CU. Sorry if my original topic was a little garbled.

Thanks for answering

The present drawing only shows the back of a typical double gang light switch. Without any information about the actual cables cables it is difficult to say exactly what goes where? (lights can be wired looped at the fitting, or switch or junction box), Was the first picture the wiring of the existing switch? If yes you just wire it like for like. All you have to to is get a permanent live to one side of each switch and the load (lamp) on the other side. If neutrals are looped at the switch they will also need joining together. A photo of the cables at the wall may be easiest to identify exactly what you have.

If the cable from your CU is the feed, and the two other cables go directly to the lights, it's quite easy, but first can we ask what electrical knowledge you have?

I have an HND in Electronic Engineering. Unfortunately, we didn't do very much on this type of switch. All I need to know is, which terminals the two cables from the lights go to (live, earth and neutral) and which terminals the feed from the CU go to. To answer Doc H's question, the first diagram has nothing whatever to do with this I just chose the wrong jpg for the upload.

Thanks for answering
