Hi all

Hopefully you can help

We have just taken down a false ceiling in our hallway which housed 3 spotlights.  Its the downstairs hallway and its a double switched light.

We have one new light fitting to put up.

This is the problem.

There is no

We removed only the wiring for the existing lights back to where they were connected to the mains (ring main)

We have 3 red, 3 black and 3 earth wires from the ceiling.  Of these, we have 1 permanently live red and1 permanently live black.  When the new light is connected it cant be turned off

Help

We have just plastered the ceiling thinking the correct wires are through, does this mean going to the bedroom and removing floorboards?

Hi Andy

All my partner took down is the wire from the old lights, havent touched anything past the connector.  So the connector is what it was.  The lights worked perfectly before but there was three of them

We dont seem to have a switched live...

damn it - was hoping maybe there was something to avoid that - thanks for confirming though.  Ill let him know

but how was it working before as that is where the lights were wired in?

You need to get at those three cables , it sounds like a classic 3 plate cock -up.  ( Trade term)

Either take a floorboard up or cut a hole in the plasterboard .

Then you need to identify the cables that go to the switch ,  we could do a drawing if you post a photo or get local Sparky in to re-connect it .   Probably about £40 .

Just seen you are  darn sarf sooooo  about £300  . :innocent

Edit :   Might want to think about changing Forum name to Sillymoomoo for not taking a photo. :Blushing :innocent
