I'm trying to refit a halogen roof light which has blue and brown wires coming out to the roof fitting, however have forgotten which terminals to connect it to!

Can anyone give me a hand working it out! ;)

Loooking at the pic i'm assuming the single black on the right would more than likely be the S/Wire and the two black on the left would be the neutrals.

Do have a tester to check for voltage if so with power on you would have 240v red to to the 2 blacks, and with the switch in the on postion 240v single black to the 2 blacks.

Just turn light switch on and off to confirm it.

Hope that helps

As Paul said, it looks like loop in, loop out, spur and twin red switchwire so neutral is with the blacks and switched live is with the single red on the right, permanent (loop) live in the centre.

there's a single red on the right and then two twin reds in the middle
If you untwisted all the wires...

(Don't though this is just talking through what you have actually got)....

You would see there are four physical cables:

3 which have 1x black & 1x red wire (called Twin & Earth)

1 which has 2x red wires (called Twin Red & Earth)

The three Twin & Earths cables have:-

Black to left hand terminal.

Red to middle terminal.

The Twin Red & Earth has:-

1x Red to middle terminal.

1x Red to right hand terminal.

As the guys have said your light fitting has Blue to the black & Brown to the single red.

With the earlier picture it is a similar arrangement but a Red/Black Twin & Earth is used where the Twin red is on the second photo.

e.g. First Photo....

You would see there are three physical cables:

Which all have 1x black & 1x red wire (Twin & Earth)

Two of the three Twin & Earths cables have:-

Black to left hand terminal.

Red to middle terminal.

The third Twin & Earth has:-

1x Red to middle terminal.

1x Black to right hand terminal.

As the guys have said your light fitting has Blue to the left hand black & Brown to the right hand black.

THIS IS ASSUMING YOU HAVEN'T PREVIOUSLY UNDONE ALL THESE WIRES....

If a Twin & Earth had been crossed over it is possible to blow the fuse by accidentally connecting the switch directly across the supply.

Those are two different Ceiling Roses. The one in the Second Pic is different from the second one.

I have placed them side by side for your convenience Guys. ;)

I have seen the one on the right before what was the outcome of the lights not working.

i also thought that admin, then i thought they may look different as they have been taken down and painted round ect. But the way the light is being fitted means you dont have to disconnect any wires as he has slid the bracket under the rose, so all in all im very confused!
