At a property the other day and the after the stop cock on the water supply was plastic pipe the householder had changed most of cold water pipework to plastic i could find metal pipe work under the kitchen sink. first question would it be advisable to bond at this point. And is there a test to determine if i should bond it or not.

cheers for any advice

a wander lead lead connected between pipe work and main terminal can't rember of hand what it needs to be below to need bonding though but somebody else will tell us.

1667 if my memory is correct
1666.6666 Is your max permissble Zs with a TT and 30ma RCD to ensure touch voltage cannot exceed 50v...

IxR = V

0.03a x 1667ohms = 50v

The question if need to bond or not....

Is more around..

a) Is the bit of metal an exposed conductive part... (part of the electrical installation that is metal and touchable!?)

or

B) An extraneous conductive part.... (A bit of metal likely to introduce earth potential, typically sticking in the ground somewhere!?)

As a rule of thumb if the continuity between Electrical earth and your bit of metal is greater then 20kohms (20,000ohms)

the metal is generally considered to be JUST A BIT OF METAL that is NOT extraneous.

You also need to look at if other bits of earthy conductive bits are simultaneously accessible to your metal parts,

to assess the probable risk of electric shock.
