Hardy,

Thats bull!

The NICEIC logo is their copyright and is only for use by it's members, people using him would have thought that he had passed an annual assesment, was qualified and insured.. It's just like someone using the gas safe logo when their not registered.

Not enough of this is done/chased up by the schemes/trading standards

JIB is another one have seen loads of fake cards

It's funny how you seem to hear more about fines for illegally using a logo you are not entitled to use, and very little about fines for doing shoddy or dangerous work.

There's a very good reason too! Its all propaganda, they want you to feel big brother is watching you and that the cowboys are being caught. The problem is the cowboys cost to much time and money to catch, so they go for the registered ones, they know who and where they are, and working.

The Niceic, Napit, Gas safe, none of these have any jurisdiction where illegal work takes place. If they are not using a Logo its down to you, You can RIDDOR, HSE will only get involved when theirs been a dangerous incident, Trading standards are the next line, they need to who where and when the illegal work will take place for them to be able to do anything, then finally advertising standards.

Its a joke, very rarely will any cowboy get caught, its easier to pull up the registered lads.

But this guy was not "registered" he was just pretending to be and using a logo he had no right to use.

As I said before, it's sad when it's easier to get a successful prosecution for trademark infringement, than it is for any dangerous or illegal trading activity.

That unfortunately is the case, all these boys paying scam schemes, as long as you do the job correct and you don't use a logo, its difficult to get prosecuted.

Unfortunately this is the case in many circumstances. It is far easier to sue for copyright than any type of dangerous installation, this is because of the statute law as it stands. BS 8671 is not a ststute law, in fact to be presecuted under any infringement of this is impossible, no maybe, or probable allowed, this is because BS 7671 has already been tested in court of law.

However, if any trader uses a logo that they are not entitled to use, and used to mislead customers, then it is an easy prosecution with little or no evidence required other than a statement stating that the defendant is not permitted to use or indicate the use of the logo.

Batty do not bother JIB used to be something, nowadays its a 3 letter swear word. They have done nothing for any electrician, and should be disbanded.

As for roman numerals? I can not begin to try to say, or type, your user name, your new are you not? its very clear to me. In years gone by, before you were born we all used to be members through our Joint Industry Board of training schemes, or apprenticeships JIB something or another, first apprentice, then some kind of level, until we received our gold card.

Politically the JIB, and indeed all and any electrical body, have very little say today, we have been overlooked, by them all, and until an electrical disaster occurs on the scale of Chernobil, we will always be underestimated. Electricity is not dangerous, there are no recorded deaths per year, no fires are caused by bad electrical installations, and no person installing any electrical wires causes danger to persons or property. Unless of course, it actually does happen to some important member of the active government. Then we can revamp Part P, get men in position to police it< and give weekly reports to some one who will listen, actively argue and debate, and maybe, just maybe, you poor people can have the protection from harm and damage that these pocket lining government officials receive.

I know, I look but never log on, and I saw that you needed to join the JIB so that you could do 3 phase properly, instead of the way you have been doiung it for the last 20 years or so.

I will have to renew mine, I only ever do 3 phase these days but was not aware that I needed my JIB card to do it. I think I will just remove two phases, less hassle and no JIB card required. Sod it if the total demand is above 125 amp.
