Hi - looking to pick brains and confirm my own thoughts. Iwas called to a house today as the shower had stopped working. Checked the wall mounted 45A switch and both line & neutral terminals on load side had melted. The circuit checked out fine- low zs, clear on insulation test. The shower is a 8.5kw on a B32 mcb & rcd protected-neither breaker orrcd have tripped. Would the likely cause be loose connections when originally installed? Appreciate some guidance if my thoughts are incorrect.

Thanks guys for quick response- nice to have my thoughts confirmed

Could just be the switch is not up to the job more likely as both L and N are affected generally loose connection only one side is affected. Might be an idea to put it on a b40 breaker too.

How old is the shower switch and cabling? I've known equipment terminals loosen over time. Not an entirely uncommon situation.

After checking cable calcs obviously. ;)
