Hi lads , moving a fuse board up to the ceiling on a job i,m on as its in the way of the new kitchen , the meter tails need to be chased in to the wall , are you allowed to chase meter tails in the wall ? just worried about the tails only being protected by the 80a main fuse.

was thinking of running the tails through a separate RCD in the meter cupboard .

what do you guys think?

the mater is about a foot off the floor , the board is moving to the ceiling , 2.5m max

Many Thanks

Ste:)

One Rcd is not allowed on a system since the 17th came out
But does the board also have an rcd ?

Swa run surface would be cool :D

The new regs would apply so if its got to be flush its SWA or MICC. I presume a length of sheet steel covering meter tails would comply if it were earthed, your RCD idea wouldn't comply.

Deke

still wouldnt chase tails in under any circumstances, as if someone else went into the property and decided to drill in that location for what ever reason they would never have a clue the cables were there, and in my opinion that would be very dangerous

sorry but i really dont agree with this practice.

but....

if someone is stupid enough to drill a hole in a wall directly between meter and comsumer unit, then thats their fault. maybe let natural selection take over...

Unfortunately we have to look out for idiots that is what the 17th is all about.

Batty

batty thats no way to talk about pache like that :^O :^O

sorry pache only kidding your a sound vet ;)

seriously though, we do need to think of the idiots now a days though :(

Bet the plumbers leave their pipes surface?????? :)
ever seen a joist after its been notched for a 15mm pipe? its usually big enough to fit 50x50 in once the pipes are....

bearing that in mind, do you really want them to chase their pipes into the wall!

What about running them in 20mm Steel Conduit, buried in the wall? Defo no need for RCD then either. :)
