I`ve put 25mm tails in a wall, coming down from ceiling to C.U. (1200 from floor). Had 1/2" (earthed) steel plate covering the whole run of cables, boarded & skimmed.

Muts nuts:x

yeah thats a bit different if its being boared and skimmed but just dug out into plaster doesnt give much room.

plus if someone dopey enough drills into the steel plate and thinks blimey this is hard birck theyll just turn the hammer action on and keep drilling, then whats going to happen :^O

chop em into the cavity .. :0 every ones happy then . :)

wel if they dont see them they will be .

Thanks for all the replies , customer don't want them surface mounted , cu is going to be fixed at about 6-7ft off the floor and is RCD protected , but the tails wont be , might be able to put them in steel conduit but even that don't seem to safe as it could still be drilled if someone is determined enough

Surface trunk may be the best/safest option - or find someone else

Heads or tails....

Spin a coin may be the answer! ]:) :D ;)

i would not ever chase them in. I would go down every other route possible.

as mentioned if they were chased in under 50mm from the surface they would have to be 30mA RCD protected, and therefore not comply, unless they are armoured or in earthed conduit or similar

although as far as i can read into the regs if they were chased more than 50mm into the fabric of the building i dont think they would need RCD protecting, if in a safe zone.

is it possible to use the cavity?

Has the length of the tails been considered?

Lenght of tails is no more the 3 meters , cavity seems to of been filled with old cement /crap ect ... looking at the option of a stainlees steel plate

cheers

?
just remember that if you do manage to chase them mote than 50mm.... its probably less than 50mm from the other side!
