I was just wondering

,I f I was asked to add an additional lighting point,to a circuit wired to the 16th edition,

i.e. no rcd protecting that circuit (and some of the cabling is in a wall and or the additional point is in a bathroom) do I need rcd protection for that circuit before I can add the new point ?

Similar question for an additional socket outlet (not in a bathroom of course !) ?.

Any thoughts ?

You could use galv conduit for your chase to provide protection but regarding the bathroom theres no other way around it.

1/ Read the declaration in box 4 of page 393, model Minor Works Certificate..

2/ Then read 522.6.102 & 522.6.103 on page 125.....

3/ Then work out how you are going to sign the declaration an be in accordance with page 125!

There are ways not involving RCD's but RCD's are typically the quickest and cheapest!

RCD protection is only required for the NEW part added. So if your additional light was NOT in a bath or shower room and no NEW wiring was embedded with out earthed conduit then NO you are not required to provide an RCD.

An additional socket outlet WOULD require RCD unless it was under supervision of a skilled or instructed person OR for connection of a specific appliance and labelled as such
