I got a gift from US, a cuckoo rice cooker, the sticker says 120V 60Hz 850W(MAX) AC only. I got a step-down voltage converter 230V 110V 54W powe Max but the appliance wasn’t cooking the rice after 2 tries, it had a display error meaning power cut, and while trying the second time it stopped working completely and there was a burnt smell. 
Is there anything I can do for it?

Im afraid that a 54W power supply isn't anywhere big enough to power something that is rated at 850W

I'd have though that you'd need at least a 1500W supply

im not surprised at someone being rated almost 16 times lower capacity than needed not working properly

A decent transformer will cost over £50. Plus it is a big ugly thing to have in the house.

Your gift may be well intensioned but totally unsuitable fot this side of the Atlantic.
