assuming they are normal 1 gang switches i would just work out roughly how much time it would take and times this by your hourly rate.

sounds good to me... how much do u want to earn for 1 or 2 hours work.... ??? and a total for the whole day....???

I charge a minimum of 1/2 day at whatever your rate is for a job like that , and would'nt cert it. Dare say someone will say you have to test all the lighting , raise a MWC and notify the Queen that you have done it .

when i said a whole day i meant will u fit in two jobs that day, and if so will u make what u want for the day..

10 1gang switches, you'll have them done in a flash!! Get your little 3.6v driver out for those 3.5mm screws.

thanks chaps,

very intresting knowing what others charge, i have a habit of under charging and end up earning 50 quid for a days work lol

do you think 100 for labour plus parts sound ok? it sounds abit much to me but am fed up with working for nothing

I think

Why do you all want to go in with a fixed price? I almost never do that.

I just charge at my hourly rate plus parts (with a minimum of 1 hour even if it only takes 5 minutes) so I don't have to worry if I encounter problems and the job takes longer.

I tell the customer that, and an estimate of how long it might take and they are usually happy to be charged at an hourly rate. They know what they are getting, and I know I will get a fair rate for the job, however long it takes.

I don't often price jobs either, occasionally someone will want an idea of what it will cost so I'll work it out roughly and make it a bit on the high side. I always tend to quote for worst case scenario and also someone needs to pay for my time looking at the job and doing the quote so I always say chances are it will be cheaper if it's not quoted in the first place. For smaller jobs though it can be advantageous to go in with a keen price as it could lead to other work and also it's a guaranteed few quid FWIW. Depends on your workload I suppose..
