i like people to know how much something is before. i get embarrassed handing bills over if not pre quoted for
I'd agree with this.

Although it can often help to have a min & max if you don't know exactly what a job involves.

Consider a worst case scenario..

The threads all need re cutting.

The screws that come with the switch are all too short so you have to supply longer screws.

None of the CPCs are connected to back boxes

none of the CPC's have green Yellow sleeve on them.

All of the conductors need re trimmings and stripping.

None of the switched live conductors are marked with a live colour

Got to be 10 - 15 mins per switch.

so 10 of them got to be 10 x 12mins

Approx 2 hours work!

Sorry to butt in on your thread mate

SL - I had to change a load of switches over as part of a bigger job (big for me anyway) and come across about half them snags that you said.

If you come across a switch wired in Red & Black and the switch live (Black) wasent identified. Do you have to use red tape or brown

I know the feeling mate. My boy (22mnth) came in yesterday at 6.00 with his tape recorder on full blast playing "the sun has got his hat on ... hip hip hip horray" ffs. Got confiscated quickly lol
