1 in 4 should be energy efficient. pretty much anything except a BC or ES holderbut i was told that i can get around that if i have it in writing from the customer that they only want BC/ES fittings only, or at less than 25%
Part L Suggest "One way" is to have fittings that can only take energy efficient bulbs...

It does NOT say you have to!

Also is says

1 fitting per 25square meters of dwelling floor area excluding garages OR 1 per four fittings.

remember a Rewire is NOT a new build!! :) ;)

Trouble with the pendants that take only 3 pronged cfl's is you can't buy the lamps at Tesco's / B&Q. I have had several people on a new build small estate ring me and pay me to put up proper pendants. We do a lot of rewiring and testing of council houses, and when we do a void property test and remedials, the arm of the council we deal with tells us to remove the cfl pendants the other arm of the council had put in and put up proper ones. When we do rewires, the spec is for normal pendants, and give the punter a couple of free lamps. Bathroom drum fitting and outside lights are cfl.

In any case, now that only cfl's are available on supermarket shelves (high profit - not ecology no doubt), there is bound to be compliance in most places by dint of that's all you can get nowadays.

So no matter what part L says, people will change fittings for what they want.

same here. only know what ive been told, never read it myself or anything
Neither have I , and probably never will . I think we have enough to deal with as it is. I think there is a point of law which states that the customer/resident is responsible for the state of the installation ( by employing an electrician , presumably) As I said on earlier post, I don't see our role as telling customers what light fitts they can or can't have.

On all our quotes for rewires we state that we will fit at least two mains smoke/heat detectors . Some people say they do not want them, ( they're always going off) so be it, not my problem, they are responsible for their children's safety, not me and my oppo. ( Doesn't make them any less stupid , though IMO)
